The Sun Is Coming Out… Do I Really Need Therapy Right Now?

As the spring emerges and the sun slowly begins to reappear, many people start to feel a shift in their mood. The heaviness of winter lifts, energy returns, and things begin to feel a little more manageable.

It’s also the time when some people begin to wonder:

“Do I really need therapy right now… or was I just going through a phase?”

While the warmer weather and longer days can absolutely have a positive impact on how we feel, it’s important to remember that not everything we’ve been carrying simply melts away with the snow.

When Feeling Better Doesn’t Mean Everything Is Resolved

Spending time outdoors, getting more sunlight, and reconnecting with daily routines can support emotional wellbeing in meaningful ways.

At the same time, deeper patterns — like relationship challenges, emotional wounds, or long-standing stress — don’t disappear just because the season has changed.

Sometimes, feeling a bit better can actually make it easier to avoid looking at what’s still there.

The Difference Between Coping and Healing

Many of us develop ways of coping that help us get through difficult periods.

Over time, those coping strategies can start to feel like:

  • “This is just how I am”
  • “I’ve dealt with it already”
  • “I’m fine now”

But sometimes those same patterns are actually protective responses — ways we’ve learned to avoid pain, rather than fully process it.

You might notice things like:

  • avoiding difficult conversations
  • staying busy to avoid slowing down
  • minimizing your own needs
  • feeling disconnected from yourself or others

These strategies once served a purpose. But they may no longer be serving who you are now.

A Different Kind of Spring Cleaning

Spring is often associated with clearing out what we no longer need.

The same can be true emotionally.

Therapy can be a space to gently explore:

  • what you’ve been carrying
  • what still feels unresolved
  • what you’re ready to release

Not everything needs to be “thrown away.”
Some things can be understood, reshaped, or integrated in a new way.

And some things… you may be ready to let go of.

You Deserve More Than Just “Feeling Okay”

It’s easy to settle into feeling a little better.

But you deserve more than that.

You deserve:

  • clarity
  • connection to yourself
  • relationships that feel aligned
  • the ability to move through life without the weight of old patterns holding you back

Considering Therapy This Season

If this resonates with you, it may be worth exploring what support could look like — even if things don’t feel as heavy as they once did.

At Kemelle Deeble Psychotherapy and Counselling, I offer a supportive space to explore these experiences and work toward meaningful change. Sessions are available through secure online therapy for teens, young adults, and adults across Ontario.

If you’re curious about whether therapy might be helpful right now, you’re welcome to book a complimentary consultation to see if it feels like the right fit.
